When ideas take shape: Pasi Nyman strengthens exhibition stand design at Messua
Messua Oy has welcomed a new exhibition stand designer, as Pasi Nyman joined the company in November 2025. Bringing together spatial thinking, creative visual communication, and hands-on experience in exhibition stand design, Nyman further strengthens Messua’s ability to deliver impactful exhibition environments.
Pasi Nyman is trained as an architect, but his career has steadily evolved towards visual design. Drawing and observing the built environment have interested him since childhood, making architecture studies in Tampere a natural choice.
“Throughout my studies, I worked alongside in architectural offices. That gave me a solid foundation in spatial design. After graduating in 2010, I worked as a qualified architect for a couple of years, but I had already started to feel that a more creative and faster-paced field would suit me better. In architecture, projects are often long, and the ideation phase can be relatively limited.”
After ten years in architecture, Nyman decided to follow that instinct. He completed a vocational qualification in graphic design and transitioned into the agency world in 2013. Before joining Messua, he spent nearly a decade at Markkinointiosakeyhtiö i2, where his role evolved from graphic design into full-scale exhibition and event space design.
“In that role, I was able to combine my architectural background, 3D skills, and visual ideation into one cohesive process. It felt like the right fit.”
Why exhibition stand design thrives on fast-paced creativity
What particularly appeals to Nyman in exhibition stand design is the rhythm of the work.
“This is still architectural in nature, but the cycle is much faster. Ideation plays a bigger role, and you can see the results continuously. Once one design is complete, you move straight on to the next. It keeps the work dynamic and engaging.”
At Messua, Nyman quickly became immersed in projects. The originally planned gradual onboarding turned into immediate hands-on work as multiple projects landed on his desk.
“The honeymoon phase lasted about a day,” he says with a smile. “Fortunately, the software was familiar and Messua’s process is very clear, so I could quickly focus on doing what I do best.”
A process that supports expertise
Messua’s way of working has made a strong impression on Nyman. Sales managers define the client’s needs and prepare a brief, based on which the designer creates a stand concept. Once the client approves the proposal and any final refinements are made, the project is handed over to a project manager. This allows the designer to focus on new concepts.
“The process is extremely well refined. Messua has long experience in the industry, and it shows. Everyone can focus on their strengths for the benefit of the client.”
Ideation first, guided by budget
In design work, the budget typically sets the framework, but Nyman avoids limiting ideas too early in the process.
“I don’t want to dismiss even the boldest ideas too quickly. I aim to include as much as possible within the client’s budget and the overall cost of the stand.”
“I always try to incorporate a ‘wow’ element into the design, even with smaller budgets. My goal is to create a stand that excites both the client and the visitors. Even small details can make a big difference.”
